Dates: 10th to 24th February, 2016
In today’s context of what Ong has called ‘secondary orality’, determined by high-tech culture, nobody seems to question the importance of oral communication. Daily life requires the use of speech, careful listening and the critical perception of messages, both in direct and mediated communication. In this regard, mastery of oral communication is one of the two basic skills, along with writing, that enables effective communication in all possible situations.
The most recent curricular parameters reflect the importance of covering spoken expression and the acquisition of oral communication skills amongst professionals, such as researchers or teachers, who must become competent public speakers. A substantial portion of the time researchers spend working is devoted to public presentations, in which they must present and explain their scientific projects. Mastery of oral communication skills is thus essential to these professionals’ ability to deliver these public presentations effectively.
This workshop focuses on learning and mastering public speaking, understood as the art of speaking and convincing required for the public presentations given by researchers. To this end, it aims to help researchers acquire the skills they need to select and organize the scientific content to be presented to effectively present the content by using use voice and gestures, and to choose the most suitable aids and supporting materials.
